With reference to the letter from this Office

of the 3rd July regarding the losses sustained by

your Company in the recent attack on the "Tal-on"

I am directed by Secretary 31r N. Gruy to inform you

that after consultation with the Colonial Office and

His Majesty's Minister at Peking he has decided that

no claim can be made against the Chinese Government

in respect of such losses,

I am to add that no claim has been put forward

by any other party not being a member of the crow

of the 111-fated vessel,
